A new score in collaboration with retro-artist Platinumfungi! Platinumfungi is making a name for himself online as an innovative and creative artist, and bringer-together of creatives (twice on the front page of Reddit, Kotaku, ThinkGeek, etc). He produced this short to support the #metroidcelebration that he and his merry crew organized! It was delightful to research and adapt the original Nintendo game Metroid and the ground-breaking score that “Hip” Tanaka wrote for it.
The film is based on Douglas Mawson’s incredible 1912 solo trek in Antarctica. An amazing story of how, after losing his supplies and two friends to the ice, poetry and persistence kept a starving and exhausted man walking 100 miles across the harshest place on Earth.
Directed by Louie Fisher who also did sound, camera, special effects, editing, and co-wrote the script. I wrote and performed the music, produced and co-wrote the script.
(“Winter Mountain” written and performed by Inge Chiles.)
We made this film over eight months in rural Wisconsin (Pepin County) for $80.
This dreamscape film was made for a 48 film contest by some friends of mine. Although the music making doesn’t fall under the same time limit as the film making, in the spirit of the contest, I put the music together in the 48 hours leading up to the beginning of the contest.
The film makers had some general ideas for me to work with, so it was really cool to see how the music worked with the visuals when they were put together. I didn’t change the music once the filmmaking started and it was… synchronistic! how they worked together. : )
